Proviron, sold under its trade name Mesterolone is an oral androgen and anabolic steroids drug that is very commonly used in the treatment of hypogonadism. It is also used to treat infertility, though this usage is highly debated. Mesterolone is usually taken orally. Mesterolone has a number of effects on the target tissues when it is taken. It causes enlargement of the testicles, it blocks the production of testosterone and it has an estrogenic effect.
Mesterolone works by occupying the target proviron cells of the steroid hormone androgen receptors and by reducing the action of the testosterone hormone. The net result is that the target tissues are neither affected nor altered by the proviron while it still reaches the muscle and liver tissue. This makes it a useful and cheap alternative to synthetic testosterone preparations.
Mesterolone is actually a derivative of the hormone thyroxine. When thyroxine is used in men to treat androgenic alopecia, or male pattern baldness, proviron is synthesized as a result. In this case the action of proviron is directed only at the liver. This means that while the liver is protected from the action of testosterone, the other organs of the body are not spared. There is therefore an increased risk of liver dysfunction when taking proviron.
You should be aware of such risks and should therefore ask your doctor about the possible side effects that you can expect with the intake of proviron. Your doctor might also recommend that you should not take proviron unless your doctor advises it. You should therefore ask your doctor if you need a prescription for the medicine. This is because the medicines can cause changes in the target organ systems of men like that of the prostate. Therefore, you might end up in a situation where you end up having an impaired prostate functioning or even in an increased risk of developing benign prostate hyperplasia.
Prostate cancer is also a condition that you might end up having to deal with when you take proviron. The risk of developing prostate cancer is reduced when you stop taking proviron but your doctor will still advise you not to take proviron unless the doctor recommends it. The risk can still be significant if you do not get your liver repaired after taking proviron.
Always take your medicines under medical supervision. Make sure that you have a regular checkup with your doctor so that you can know your normal progress. A healthy liver is also an important part of the body that can only be maintained if you take high blood pressure medications like that of calcium channel blockers and /or beta-blockers under medical supervision. So, when you take high blood pressure medicines like that of proviron, make sure that you consult your doctor about your liver.
